Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2
SEGA (2025)

Description
The next chapter in the video game adaptation of the popular anime series, *Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2*, is set to expand upon its predecessor with a wealth of new content and gameplay enhancements. Developed by CyberConnect2 and published by SEGA, the game is slated for a 2025 release, with some sources indicating a specific launch date of August 5, 2025. The sequel will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
The story mode of *The Hinokami Chronicles 2* picks up where the first game left off, allowing players to relive the events of the Entertainment District Arc, the Swordsmith Village Arc, and the Hashira Training Arc from the *Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba* anime. This single-player experience will once again put players in the shoes of Tanjiro Kamado as he battles powerful Upper Rank demons alongside his allies. Gameplay footage reveals explorable areas within locations like the Swordsmith Village, where players can undertake side quests and collect items that unlock special bonuses and story flavor text. The story mode is expected to offer a substantial single-player experience, with one review noting it took roughly eight hours to complete.
One of the most significant enhancements in the sequel is the expanded roster of playable characters in the VS Mode. The game will feature over 40 characters, including the much-anticipated debut of all nine Hashira, the highest-ranking members of the Demon Slayer Corps. This includes characters like the Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, and the Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji, who will be playable for the first time. The returning cast from the first game will also receive significant balance changes.
CyberConnect2 has also introduced new gameplay mechanics to deepen the combat system. A "Gear" system will allow players to equip up to three buffs on their characters, which can provide advantages like healing or increased damage under certain conditions. Furthermore, specific combinations of characters will now have access to powerful "Dual Ultimates," complete with unique animations. The overall pace of matches has also been adjusted, with a two-bar limit on the special meter intended to create faster-paced battles.
Several editions of the game will be available for purchase. A Digital Deluxe Edition will offer early access to the game starting on July 31, 2025, along with various character unlock keys and cosmetic items. A Standard Digital Edition and a Physical Edition will also be available. Players who have save data from the first *Hinokami Chronicles* on the same platform will be eligible for bonus unlock keys for Kimetsu Academy characters.
Post-launch support in the form of downloadable content has also been announced. A free update is scheduled to add the series' main antagonist, Muzan Kibutsuji, as a playable character in VS Mode on September 18, 2025. Following this, a paid DLC titled "The Infinity Castle – Part 1 Character Pass" will introduce seven new playable characters, including new versions of Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Giyu Tomioka, and Shinobu Kocho, as well as the demons Douma, Akaza, and Kaigaku.
