Driven by the belief that the Vault Hunters' arrival and the Moonfall Cataclysm have condemned his world, Arjay seeks to destroy them, forcing players into a multi-phase boss battle that demands mastery of the game's new movement mechanics, such as the grappling hook and aerial dodging. Defeating the tragic Arjay is a bittersweet victory. Once he is vanquished, the mission shifts from combat to profound revelation. Entering the true interior of the vault, players encounter a winged, golden entity—suggested to be a future iteration of Lilith. She offers a chilling prophecy regarding an impending intergalactic war and the slow death of the universe. To aid in this struggle, she bestows upon the heroes the "Deodand," a cubic artifact or "Spark" capable of either total destruction or creation. While the mission provides no traditional monetary rewards, it concludes the story with intense weight. By returning through a rift to Moxxi’s bar, the players are left to grapple with the heavy implications of the Deodand, setting the stage for a cataclysmic future that promises to redefine the Borderlands universe forever.
