Portal with RTX is a spectacular upgrade to the beloved 2007 puzzle game, Portal. Developed by NVIDIA's Lightspeed Studios, this version is a free DLC for owners of the original game, and it's all about showcasing the power of NVIDIA's RTX technology. They've completely overhauled the game's visuals with full ray tracing and DLSS. While the core gameplay – navigating Aperture Science, solving puzzles with the portal gun, and dealing with GLaDOS – remains exactly the same, the graphics are dramatically different. Every light source is now ray-traced, meaning you get incredibly realistic shadows, reflections, and global illumination. Light bounces around dynamically, and even travels through portals, making everything feel much more immersive. They used NVIDIA's RTX Remix platform for this, adding new high-res textures and models to make the environments feel more real and tangible. Test Chamber 11 in *Portal with RTX* is a fantastic example of this graphical upgrade. It's the same layout as the original, where you start with only a blue portal and need to work with a rotating orange portal gun to get through. You've got that dangerous goo pit below and a button to hit that opens a door elsewhere. The RTX version makes this whole experience so much more breathtaking. That rotating orange portal? Now its light and the way it illuminates the walls is incredibly realistic. The pellet you have to redirect glows brilliantly, and when it passes through a portal, the light effects in the other chamber are stunning. The chamber is also where you get the crucial upgrade to your own dual portal device. Reaching that central platform in the RTX version feels even more significant because of the enhanced atmosphere. The metallic surfaces gleam realistically, the goo looks murky and hazardous, and the reflections on the observation glass are crystal clear. It’s a prime demonstration of how ray tracing can make a classic environment feel brand new and incredibly immersive, turning a familiar puzzle into a visually dazzling adventure.
