South Park: Snow Day! is a rather different beast from its RPG predecessors, venturing into a 3D cooperative action-adventure with roguelike elements. Developed by Question and published by THQ Nordic, this March 2024 release puts players back in the snow-covered streets of South Park as the "New Kid," joining the familiar crew of Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny. The premise is simple: a massive blizzard has canceled school, and the kids are embroiled in an epic game of make-believe, with factions warring over this glorious snow day. The New Kid must battle through the frozen town to unravel the mystery of the endless blizzard. Gameplay emphasizes real-time, cooperative combat for up to four players, featuring a variety of weapons, abilities, and a unique card system for buffs and "Bullshit cards." The boss fight against Eric Cartman, in his self-proclaimed role as the Grand Wizard, is a quintessential South Park experience – chaotic, unfair, and hilariously frustrating. It's a multi-phase battle that perfectly mirrors Cartman’s personality. Initially, he summons Bulrog, a colossal snow golem impervious to damage, designed to overwhelm and harass the player. While dodging Bulrog’s attacks, players must focus on the actual target: Cartman, who bombards them with fireballs and meteor showers, all while protected by a temporary shield. He even has the audacity to turn your weapons into useless pool noodles, forcing reliance on special abilities. The second phase descends into pure Cartman chaos. He merges with Bulrog and unleashes a legion of snow clones of himself, all attacking with fireballs. The challenge here is to identify the real Cartman amongst the decoys, who will flee when attacked, unlike the stationary fakes. Success hinges on teamwork, constant evasion, and seizing every fleeting opportunity to damage the infuriatingly resilient Grand Wizard. It’s a fittingly absurd and difficult test of will against Cartman's legendary cheating.
