Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
ລາຍລະອຽດ
"Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel" is a rollicking good time, a first-person shooter that sets up the story we all know and love from "Borderlands 2." It drops us onto Pandora's moon, Elpis, and a swanky Hyperion space station, showing us how the formerly not-so-bad guy, Handsome Jack, became the villain we love to hate. Think of it as an origin story, but with more explosions and killer one-liners. The game keeps the signature Borderlands cel-shaded look and its trademark dark humor, but throws in some cool new tricks. The low-gravity environment is a blast – literally, you can jump way higher – and you gotta keep an eye on your oxygen thanks to those handy "Oz kits." Plus, they added cryo weapons to freeze enemies and laser guns for that extra futuristic flair. You get to play as four new characters, each with their own awesome skill trees: Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Enforcer, Nisha the Lawbringer, and the ever-lovable Claptrap. And of course, the co-op is back, so you and your buddies can cause mayhem together.
In this lunar playground of "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel," the side mission "Nothing is Never an Option" really shines, showing us how tough life is on Elpis. It’s a tale of trying to survive, of backstabbing, and of making hard choices when there don't seem to be any good ones. It’s like a mini-version of the whole game's vibe, showing how Elpis can mess with people, just like it does with John before he becomes Handsome Jack.
It all kicks off with Janey Springs, always looking for a score. She picks up a distress signal, and her first thought isn't about saving someone, but about what she can salvage. That’s Elpis for you. You get sent to a rough part of the moon to check it out. There, you find Amelia, who’s bolted from her ex-boyfriend Boomer’s gang of scavs and they’re hot on her trail. She’s basically begging you to help her out, and you’re suddenly in the middle of a firefight, defending her against a ton of scavs. It’s a crazy, desperate defense, just like Amelia’s situation. These scavs are like the bandits on Pandora, a reminder that on Elpis, it’s often the strongest who survive.
The conversations in the mission are key. Amelia seems like a damsel in distress at first, but then you learn she stole from the scavs. This makes you wonder: is she a victim, or just as cunning as everyone else? This moral grayness is classic Borderlands, and here it shows how desperate people get when they're just trying to stay alive. Boomer, the guy Amelia ran from, isn't just a faceless bad guy. He’s hurt and feels betrayed, like Amelia’s theft was personal. His anger, even though it leads to violence, comes from a place of wounded pride, making the conflict more than just good versus evil.
The showdown with Boomer is messy and violent. It's not a neat victory, just the end of a personal feud. And Amelia? She's not sad or relieved, she's just practical. She immediately offers to share her loot with you, making the whole thing look like a business deal, albeit a dangerous one. This way of looking at things, where everything's a transaction, is a direct result of living on Elpis. There’s no room for sentimentality when you’re just trying to make it through the day.
"Nothing is Never an Option" isn't just another side quest. It’s a perfect example of why the whole game works. The title itself sums up the tough choices everyone on Elpis faces. When right and wrong are all mixed up, and survival means doing questionable things, the idea that you have no choice feels like a comforting lie. Amelia chose to steal, Boomer chose to get revenge, and you chose to step in. All these choices, driven by survival and self-preservation, have consequences on this harsh moon. It’s a powerful reminder of how the brutal environment of Elpis can corrupt people, pushing them to believe that, in the end, nothing is ever truly an option.
