Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

ລາຍລະອຽດ

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, a first-person shooter crafted by 2K Australia and Gearbox Software, bridges the gap between the original Borderlands and its sequel, immersing players in the rise of Handsome Jack on Pandora's moon, Elpis. This installment delves into Jack's transformation from a corporate drone to the iconic villain, enriching the overarching narrative with his complex motivations. The game retains the series' signature cel-shaded art and dark humor, enhanced by new gameplay mechanics like low gravity, which allows for higher jumps and strategic verticality in combat. Oxygen tanks, or Oz kits, are essential for survival in space, adding a layer of resource management. New elemental damage types, such as cryo for freezing and shattering enemies, and laser weapons, further diversify combat options. Four new playable characters—Athena, Wilhelm, Nisha, and Claptrap—each bring unique skill trees and playstyles to the fore. Cooperative multiplayer for up to four players remains a cornerstone, fostering camaraderie and shared chaos. The narrative explores themes of power and corruption, challenging players to consider the moral ambiguity of characters. Despite its engaging gameplay and narrative depth, some found it more of an expansion than a full sequel. "No Such Thing as a Free Launch," a side quest within Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, epitomizes the game's blend of dark humor, absurd ambition, and player involvement in catastrophic events. The mission begins with the player encountering Cosmo Wishbone, a melodramatic musician on Elpis who dreams of broadcasting his symphony via a rocket named "Excelsior." To help Cosmo realize his grand auditory vision, the Vault Hunter embarks on a series of fetch quests, procuring vital rocket components like a flow regulator, a flight data recorder, and a gyroscope. These tasks lead the player through treacherous territories, pitting them against local marauders and exposing them to Tony Slows' morbidly amusing collection of disastrous spacefaring remnants. The latter part of the mission involves clearing energized shugguraths from the launch site. Finally, as the rocket launches and Cosmo's symphony begins, it's hijacked by pirate radio DJs. In a frantic attempt to regain control, Cosmo overloads the system, resulting in a spectacular, fatal explosion. The player is then humorously instructed to collect their reward from Cosmo's "charred corpse." Completing this ill-fated endeavor rewards the player with experience, currency, and a unique electric weapon, the Sparkling Volt Thrower, a fittingly explosive conclusion to a mission that perfectly encapsulates the Borderlands universe's chaotic, darkly comedic nature.
