Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
ລາຍລະອຽດ
*Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel* is a delightful interquel, bridging the gap between the first two *Borderlands* games. It whisks us away to Pandora's moon, Elpis, and the orbiting Hyperion space station, chronicling the dramatic ascent of the delightfully villainous Handsome Jack. We witness his transformation from a mere Hyperion programmer into the megalomaniacal overlord players love to despise, enriching the overarching narrative with his twisted motivations.
The game keeps the series' signature cel-shaded aesthetic and quirky humor intact, but injects fresh gameplay. Elpis' low gravity is a game-changer, enabling higher jumps and more vertical combat. Oz kits, our lifeline in the vacuum, add a layer of strategic oxygen management. New elemental damage types, like the satisfyingly freeze-and-shatter cryo, and futuristic laser weapons, expand our already impressive arsenal. Four new vault hunters—Athena, Wilhelm, Nisha, and Claptrap—each bring their unique skills and playstyles, ensuring a distinct experience for every player. Cooperative multiplayer, a series staple, remains as chaotic and fun as ever.
One of the most charming examples of *The Pre-Sequel*'s quest design is the side mission, "Infinite Loop." This gem, handed out by the esteemed Mr. Jack himself, puts us in the middle of a hilariously absurd conflict. We're sent to investigate a weapon development delay, only to find two Claptrap units, DAN-TRP and CLAP-9000, locked in an endless digital shouting match. They can't decide which experimental weapon to produce, bringing all prototyping to a grinding halt.
Jack tasks us with finding a restraining bolt to silence one of the bickering bots. This choice isn't just about ending the argument; it directly dictates our reward. DAN-TRP, the "peaceful warrior," advocates for a cryo grenade mod called the Snowball, while CLAP-9000, the "sexy megalomaniac," champions a laser weapon, the Mining Laser. Siding with DAN-TRP means receiving the Snowball, a potent single-target cryo weapon. Conversely, choosing CLAP-9000 grants us the Mining Laser, a continuous beam weapon with incendiary potential. "Infinite Loop" perfectly encapsulates *Borderlands*' knack for blending action, exploration, and humor with impactful player choices that immediately enhance our arsenal.
