Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
ລາຍລະອຽດ
*Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel* is a game that fills in the gaps, a narrative bridge connecting the chaos of *Borderlands* to the villainous reign of Handsome Jack in its sequel. Set on Pandora’s moon, Elpis, and aboard the orbiting Hyperion space station, it shows us how Jack, once a programmer, transforms into the megalomaniacal figure we love to despise. The game keeps the signature cel-shaded look and quirky humor, but adds new twists like the moon’s low gravity, making leaps and combat more dynamic. Oxygen tanks, or "Oz kits," become essential for survival in the vacuum, adding a strategic layer to exploration. New elemental damage types like cryo, which can freeze and shatter enemies, and lasers, offer fresh combat options. We get to play as four new vault hunters: Athena, Wilhelm, Nisha, and Claptrap, each with unique skills, and can team up with friends for the usual Borderlands co-op mayhem. The story touches on power, corruption, and the blurry lines between heroes and villains, all while poking fun at corporate greed and authoritarianism.
The mission "Quarantine: Back On Schedule" in *Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel* is a perfect microcosm of the game's experience. It starts with the perpetually condescending Tassiter, who claims a viral outbreak has halted construction on the Veins of Helios. He sends us in, not to cure anything, but to verify the "infestation" and get things back on track, with his usual disregard for anyone's well-being. First, we have to reactivate maintenance and quarantine protocols. This means a series of technical steps in the maintenance area. We activate a failsafe, then seal the doors, a move Tassiter explains is to prevent us from "jeopardizing the rest of the station and using up their oxygen." Finally, we open access portals, which, conveniently, vents all the air. This creates a frantic race against time, forcing us to activate force fields for each portal to restore air before we suffocate or the failsafe resets. Once the area is stabilized, we release worker bots to clear a path. Completing these steps lets us turn in the mission and seamlessly leads into the follow-up, "Quarantine: Infestation," where we finally confront the actual, hostilized workers, now infected. It's a brilliant blend of environmental puzzle-solving, tense time limits, and the darkly humorous corporate culture that defines Hyperion in *Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel*.
