Sludgemaw's signature move is its disconcerting "Burrow," where it vanishes underground, only to erupt beneath unsuspecting players. Staying mobile and paying close attention to visual and auditory cues is paramount. When it surfaces, its "Tentacle Swipe" is a devastating melee attack, capable of sending players flying. Furthermore, it can spew corrosive trash and summon swarms of weak Grubs, which, while a nuisance, offer a lifeline for "Second Wind" should you be downed. The key to overcoming Sludgemaw lies in exploiting its single, flesh-based health bar, making incendiary damage particularly effective. A common tactic involves luring it to the surface by remaining stationary, then unleashing a torrent of firepower. For a more strategic approach, positioning oneself atop a large metal cargo container offers a significant advantage. This elevation forces Sludgemaw into relying on ranged attacks, providing clearer, extended windows for damage. From this vantage point, its critical hit spots become more accessible. Sticky grenades are also a valuable asset, as they continue to track the boss even when it's buried. Upon its defeat, Sludgemaw can reward players with legendary gear, including the homing projectile-firing "Birt's Bees" SMG, the bouncing disc-launching "Kickballer" shotgun, and the "Onion" shield, which offers temporary invincibility upon partial shield breakage.
