High On Life: High On Knife

High On Life: High On Knife is a downloadable content (DLC) expansion for the comedic first-person shooter *High On Life*. Released in the fall of 2023, this add-on builds upon the foundation of the main game, introducing a new storyline, characters, and bizarre weaponry. The narrative of *High On Knife* shifts the focus to Knifey, the player's cheerfully violent talking knife, as he seeks to track down a mysterious package from his home planet. This quest leads players to a new and previously unexplored planet in the game's universe. The expansion introduces two new talking guns, known as Gatlians, to the player's arsenal. One of these is Harper, a former military pistol who is grappling with her past and expresses a great deal of self-doubt. The other new weapon is B.A.L.L., a pinball-inspired gun that fires ricocheting projectiles, creating chaotic and unpredictable combat scenarios. These new additions not only provide fresh gameplay mechanics but also contribute to the game's signature comedic dialogue, interacting with the player and other characters in the world. The primary new location in *High On Knife* is Peroxis, a salt-covered planet that is home to a race of slugs. This setting provides a visually distinct backdrop for the DLC's missions. The story is estimated to offer players around three hours of new content, continuing the blend of absurdist humor and frenetic action that defined the original game. The narrative also features the return of the main game's protagonist and their Gatlian companions, though the central focus remains firmly on Knifey's personal journey. The development of *High On Knife* was led by an all-new team at Squanch Games, the studio founded by *Rick and Morty* co-creator Justin Roiland. This new creative team aimed to expand on the game's universe while maintaining the established tone and comedic style. The DLC was made available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and was also included with the Xbox Game Pass subscription service upon its release.
