Poppy Playtime - Chapter 2
Mob Entertainment (2022)

Description
Released in 2022 by Mob Entertainment, *Poppy Playtime - Chapter 2*, subtitled "Fly in a Web," significantly expands upon the foundation of its predecessor, deepening the lore and introducing more complex gameplay mechanics. Picking up immediately where the first chapter concluded, the player has just freed the titular Poppy doll from her glass case. This second installment is a larger and more substantial experience, estimated to be three times the size of Chapter 1, and it plunges the player deeper into the sinister secrets of the abandoned Playtime Co. toy factory.
The narrative of Chapter 2 continues the player's journey as a former employee returning to the factory a decade after its staff mysteriously vanished. Initially, the newly-freed Poppy appears to be an ally, promising to help the player escape by providing the code to a train that leads out of the factory. However, this plan is quickly thwarted by the chapter's primary antagonist, Mommy Long Legs. A large, pink, spider-like creature with dangerously flexible limbs, Mommy Long Legs (also known as Experiment 1222) confiscates Poppy and forces the player into a series of deadly games within the factory's Game Station. To retrieve the train code, the player must survive three challenges, each hosted by a different toy.
This chapter introduces a host of new characters to the Playtime Co. roster. The central threat, Mommy Long Legs, is portrayed as manipulative and sadistic, toying with her prey before attempting to kill them. In-game documents reveal a tragic backstory, confirming the long-held fan theory that the monstrous toys are the result of human experimentation; a letter identifies Mommy Long Legs as having once been a woman named Marie Payne. The three games introduce other threats: "Musical Memory" features Bunzo the Bunny, a yellow rabbit with cymbals who attacks if the player makes a mistake in the memory game. "Whack-A-Wuggy" involves fending off smaller versions of the first chapter's antagonist. The final game, "Statues," is a tense version of "Red Light, Green Light" where the player is pursued by the unsettling PJ Pug-A-Pillar, a hybrid of a pug and a caterpillar. In a surprising twist, the player also encounters Kissy Missy, a pink, female counterpart to Huggy Wuggy. Unlike the other toys, Kissy Missy appears to be benevolent, helping the player by opening a gate before disappearing without any aggression.
Gameplay is enhanced with the introduction of the Green Hand for the player's GrabPack. This new tool adds significant versatility, allowing the player to momentarily hold an electrical charge to power machinery remotely. Furthermore, the Green Hand introduces a grappling and swinging mechanic, enabling new forms of traversal across large gaps and to higher areas, which is integrated into both puzzles and chase sequences. The puzzles themselves are more varied and intricate than in the first chapter, moving beyond simple GrabPack interactions to include the new power transfer and grappling abilities.
After the player successfully completes the three games, an enraged Mommy Long Legs accuses them of cheating and initiates a frantic chase through the factory's industrial corridors. The climax sees the player using the factory's machinery to trap and kill Mommy Long Legs in an industrial shredder. In her final moments, she speaks of something called "The Prototype," and as she perishes, a mysterious, spindly mechanical hand emerges from the shadows to drag her broken body away. Having secured the train code, the player boards the train with Poppy, seemingly on the verge of escape. However, in the game's final moments, Poppy betrays the player, diverting the train and causing it to crash. She cryptically states that she cannot let the player leave and that they are "too perfect to lose," revealing a more sinister side to her character and setting a compelling cliffhanger for the next chapter.
