It's Alive | Borderlands 3 | As Moze, Walkthrough, No Commentary
Borderlands 3
Description
Borderlands 3 is a chaotic and colorful first-person shooter known for its distinctive cel-shaded graphics, irreverent humor, and endless array of procedurally generated weapons. As the fourth main entry in the popular series, it continues the looter-shooter formula, allowing players to choose from unique Vault Hunters with distinct abilities, battle enemies, and collect mountains of loot across various planets. The game maintains the series' blend of shooting, RPG elements, and a comedic tone, while introducing new mechanics and expanding the universe beyond the familiar setting of Pandora.
The side mission "It's Alive" in Borderlands 3 embodies the game's signature absurdity and dark humor. Taking place on the desolate planet Nekrotafeyo, the mission is given by the eccentric researcher Sparrow, who, along with the more pragmatic Grouse, is attempting to build a robotic companion. The quest sends the player, a Vault Hunter, on a scavenger hunt for robot parts, all while listening to Sparrow and Grouse hilariously bicker over the design specifications. One wants a friend, the other a powerful combat bot, leading to absurd compromises like flash trooper backpacks for "sweet tricks" and an acid tank that could double as a lab cleaner.
The player gathers items like Flash Trooper Backpacks from Maliwan forces and an Acid Tank from a unique enemy, culminating in the retrieval of an AI chip. Upon returning with the parts, the player assembles the creation by literally meleeing components onto a basic frame. However, the result of their efforts is far from the desired outcome. Instead of a friendly companion or a fearsome protector, a grotesque Abomination is brought to life, immediately lamenting its painful existence. The humor here lies in the rapid shift from optimistic creation to immediate regret and the necessity of a mercy killing. The player is then forced to destroy their own creation, a darkly comedic twist on the classic monster-making trope. The mission concludes with Sparrow and Grouse blaming each other for the failure, providing a satisfyingly chaotic and memorable experience that perfectly aligns with Borderlands 3's over-the-top nature. Completing "It's Alive" rewards the player with experience, in-game currency, a unique shield, and a weapon trinket.
