After encountering ominous signs of danger, they finally meet Laurentius, who reveals Hugo’s affliction tied to their lineage. With the help of Laurentius' apprentice, Lucas, they create Ignifer to combat the rat swarms. However, tragedy strikes when a rat horde causes a catastrophic fire, resulting in Laurentius' death and forcing Amicia, Hugo, and Lucas to flee, deepening their perilous journey.
