The story follows a rebranded corporation collecting Goo Balls for mysterious reasons, with commentary from a "Distant Observer." The level "Angler" is found at the end of Chapter 1, "The Long Juicy Road." This level is unique for being the sole appearance of Firework Goo. These glowing dark purple spheres visually explode like fireworks after a short delay. While early concepts might have involved them bursting into liquid or being launched, in "Angler" they serve a primarily aesthetic purpose. "Angler" also features Chain Goo, which function similarly to the familiar Ivy Goo but are gray in color. They share properties like detachability, flammability, and allowing structures to be traversed. Completing the "Angler" level triggers a significant cutscene. After a celebration, Goo Balls use a hook to interact with one of the large squid creatures seen in the water. The creature reveals itself to be carrying the entire landmass of Chapter 1 on its back and breathes fire into space. This seemingly small event, the flash of light from the fire, is observed 100,000 years later by the Distant Observer. This character, initially depicted as a child with a telescope, chronicles the events of the World of Goo through signs and ultimately plays a crucial role in the game's epilogue, demonstrating how even seemingly minor actions in the World of Goo can have far-reaching consequences across time and space, as first witnessed after the events of "Angler."
