In Hogwarts Legacy, players explore a vast open-world RPG set in the 1800s wizarding world, attending classes, learning spells, brewing potions, and taming magical creatures. The "Foal of the Dead" side quest, acquired from Deek in the Room of Requirement at level 17, focuses on breeding Thestrals. The quest begins with Deek tasking the player with rescuing a male and female Thestral, spectral winged horses visible only to those who have witnessed death. The player must also purchase a breeding pen spellcraft from Tomes and Scrolls in Hogsmeade for 1000 gold. With the Thestrals rescued, the player returns to the Room of Requirement, where Deek guides them through conjuring a breeding pen in one of the vivariums, specifically the Swamp Vivarium, that allows up to four species. After placing the Thestrals in the pen, a 30-minute real-time wait ensues. Following the successful breeding, a baby Thestral is born, requiring grooming and feeding.
