Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Description
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in a Belle Époque-inspired fantasy world. Players lead Expedition 33, a group of volunteers, on a desperate mission to destroy the mysterious Paintress, who annually erases people of a specific age in an event called the "Gommage." The game blends traditional turn-based combat with real-time actions like dodging and targeting weak points, offering deep character customization and a diverse cast of six playable characters.
Among the numerous enemies encountered in Clair Obscur, the Crulers stand out. These formidable foes are characterized by their rough, bumpy skin, fleshy growths, and deep hollow spaces on their chests. They wield large clubs, possess dark skin with glowing red patches, and have a distinct black hole on their left shoulder as a weak point, making them vulnerable to Lightning Damage.
A notable boss encounter involving Crulers takes place in the Coastal Cave, accessible in Act II after unlocking Esquie's swimming ability. Here, players find two Nevron blacksmiths—an Unfinished Cruler and an Unfinished Bruler. Engaging them in a "demonstration of their craft" triggers a boss fight. Defeating this duo not only yields valuable rewards like Chroma Catalyst x3 and Recoat x1 but also transforms the Cruler and Bruler into merchants, offering high-level weapons for sale.
Another significant Cruler challenge occurs in the Coral Cave, a sub-area within Flying Waters. Players may drop into a red-lit area housing a Paint Cage, initially guarded by two Crulers. Challenging them escalates the fight to three Crulers. The key to victory lies in first breaking their shields, then precisely targeting the glowing weak points on their arms and hands for extra damage. Success in this encounter grants access to the Paint Cage and its reward: a Revive Tint Shard.
Beyond these specific boss fights, Crulers appear in various capacities. They can burst from walls, forge equipment in caverns, or appear in the Endless Tower's trials. Their diverse presence ensures players must consistently adapt their strategies to overcome these imposing adversaries.
