Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in Belle Époque France, where a mysterious Paintress annually erases people of a specific age. Expedition 33, from the island of Lumière, seeks to end this cycle before the cursed number reaches them. Gestral Village, north of the Ancient Sanctuary, is a bustling, vital hub for the Expeditioners. This unique settlement, home to the gestrals, features Chief Golgra's house, a vibrant bazaar, a theater, an arena, and even an unfinished casino. Upon arrival, after their initial journey, players are tasked by Chief Golgra to compete in the arena to gain passage across the sea. The village offers diverse activities: merchants like Jujubree and Eesda sell crucial upgrades and weapons, while Berrami exchanges Expedition Journals for Colour of Lumina. Side quests abound, from helping Alexsoundro for Lune's outfit to Karatom's request for mushroom spores, leading to a challenging fight against his ultimate Sakapatate. The mysterious unfinished casino hides a riddle from the Gestral Gambler, rewarding the Roulette Pictos. A secret door to the Manor reveals hidden items. The arena challenges culminate in a fight against Sciel, who then joins the party.
