Gameplay blends turn-based combat with real-time dodges, parries, and a free-aim system. Gestral Village, home to the Gestral species, is a vital hub for questing and commerce. Its main arena is central to the narrative, requiring Expedition 33 to compete for passage across the sea. Here, players face one-on-one challenges, culminating in a reunion with Sciel, "The Stranger," a lost expedition member fighting under a new identity. Winning this tournament, particularly with Maelle, grants unique, powerful weapons. Beyond this, the Hidden Gestral Arena offers solo challenges for valuable Pictos, and the later Dark Gestral Arena features multi-opponent battles against Chromatic Sakapatates and a final, difficult rematch with Chief Golgra, rewarding rare items and powerful abilities, solidifying combat as a core element of Gestral culture.
