Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in Belle Époque France, where players lead Expedition 33 to stop the Paintress from erasing humanity. Combining classic JRPG combat with real-time dodges and parries, the game features six unique characters battling a mysterious entity. Gestral Village, a bustling hub for the Gestral species, is central to player progression, especially its arena fights. Upon arrival, Expedition 33 must compete in the main arena to access Esquie. Here, players choose a single character for one-on-one battles against opponents like Bertrand Big Hands and Matthieu the Colossus, culminating in a reunion with Sciel, "The Stranger," as the final opponent. Victory against Sciel, particularly with Maelle, rewards a powerful weapon. Beyond the main village, the Hidden Gestral Arena offers further solo challenges, granting unique Pictos for each victory. Later, the Dark Gestral Arena, a floating island, presents tougher one-on-three fights against Chromatic Sakapatates before a final showdown with Chief Golgra.
