Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in a Belle Époque-inspired world, where players lead Expedition 33 to stop the Paintress from erasing humanity. Esquie’s Nest is a vibrant, pivotal area players explore early on. Approaching from Gestral Village, a large face adorns the sky. Here, players find a checkpoint, battle unique enemies like the Pétank for upgrades, and defeat a Mime to unlock a "Baguette" outfit for Sciel. The journey culminates in an eventful encounter with Esquie, who joins the party, and a challenging boss fight against François, yielding the powerful "Augmented First Strike" Pictos. The area is rich with hidden collectibles and secrets, including journal entries and a side quest, eventually allowing players to ride Esquie for traversal.
