Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in a Belle Époque-inspired world, where a sinister "Paintress" erases people of a specific age annually. Players lead Expedition 33 to destroy her before the fateful "33" is painted. After recruiting Monoco at Monoco's Station, the camp becomes a vital hub. The primary focus is integrating Monoco, a shapeshifting Gestral, who often joins at a lower level. The Curator, a mysterious being, uses "Colour of Lumina" to increase Monoco's Lumina Points, allowing him to equip passive skills and close the power gap. The Curator also upgrades party equipment using Chroma Catalysts and "Shape" items for tints. Monoco acquires new abilities by defeating specific "Nevron" enemies, encouraging targeted hunts for creatures like the Troubadour or Cruler. Beyond mechanics, the camp fosters character development. Players engage in conversations with party members, raising relationship levels, uncovering backstories, and unlocking powerful Gradient Attacks. Campfire scenes and Gustave's journal entries offer deeper insights, making the camp a sanctuary for both preparation and personal connection.
