Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a Belle Époque-inspired turn-based RPG where Expedition 33 fights a Paintress who erases people by age. After the grueling Forgotten Battlefield, the weary Expedition 33 returns to camp, facing a significant shift in their journey. Gustave departs, replaced by Verso, who inherits Gustave’s strength but demands a new, precise combat style with his "Perfection" mechanic. At camp, vital preparations begin. The Curator offers upgrades for weapons and skills, while the newly introduced relationship system deepens bonds with companions like Esquie and Lune through specific bonding events. Maelle reflects by journaling Gustave's memories. A pivotal moment arrives with Esquie gaining the ability to swim, unlocking vast new areas, hidden dungeons, and optional bosses like the Chromatic Jar. Finding Lost Gestrals also grants the "Paint Break" ability, allowing destruction of paint spikes to reveal more secrets and encourages revisiting old areas.
