Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in a Belle Époque-inspired world, where a mysterious entity called the Paintress annually erases people of a certain age in an event known as the "Gommage." Players lead Expedition 33, a group of volunteers on a desperate mission to destroy the Paintress before she paints "33," leading to their own demise. This lush, green landscape offers a starkly "happier" atmosphere compared to other zones. Upon entering Joy Vale, players can establish an Expedition Flag for saving progress. The area is home to enemies like the Contorsionniste and the boss, Jovial Moissonneuse, defeated by interacting with a large mask and selecting the "Joy" option, which rewards players with the Chapelim weapon. The region also offers valuable collectibles: a Healing Tint Shard near a Contorso-granting Nevron and another up a slope to the right from the flag, and a Chroma Catalyst in the open field where the Jovial Moissonneuse is encountered. One of Joy Vale's most significant finds is the "Confident Fighter" Pictos. Located beneath a tree on a slope past the Moisonneuses, this Pictos boosts health by 222 and critical rate by 20. Its unique Lumina ability increases damage by 30% but prevents healing, costing 15 Lumina Points to equip passively. Joy Vale also links to optional Mime boss encounters, with the Visages Mime found by heading west from the Rest Point Flag.
