Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in a Belle Époque-inspired world where a mysterious Paintress erases people each year. Players lead Expedition 33 to destroy her before she paints "33." The game blends turn-based combat with real-time dodges, parries, and combos. Following Act 1, the Forgotten Battlefield emerges as a desolate, war-torn ruin, a stark monument to failed expeditions. Trenches and siege engines scatter the landscape, silent testaments to a formidable Nevron that decimated past groups. Here, players learn the "Gradient Counter" mechanic, essential for defending against powerful enemy attacks that drain color from the world. Navigating this somber fort-like expanse involves traversing the Main Gate, Fort Ruins, and the Battlefield proper, each filled with hidden Pictos like "Sweet Kill" and journal entries from doomed Expeditions 41 and 57, offering grim lore. Chalier, Ramasseur, Troubadour, and the elusive Pétank Nevrons infest the area, alongside the optional, fire-based Chromatic Luster boss. The journey culminates in a two-phase showdown with the Dualliste on the Ancient Bridge. This powerful Nevron, resistant to Fire but weak to Light, wields two swords and inflicts the "Inverted" status, turning healing into damage. Defeating it grants "Dualiso" for Verso and the "Combo Attack I" Pictos, finally allowing escape from this haunted expanse.
