Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG, set in a Belle Époque-inspired world, where a mysterious "Paintress" annually erases people of a certain age. Players lead Expedition 33, battling to stop her before the number reaches "33". Following Act 1, the Forgotten Battlefield emerges as a desolate, fort-like ruin, a testament to past expedition failures. Trenches are filled with siege engines and skeletal remains, the air heavy with past conflicts. Here, players gain a new ally, Verso, and learn the Gradient Counter combat mechanic, crucial for defending against powerful enemy attacks that drain the world's color. The area features new Nevrons like the armored Chalier and the elusive Pétank. Optional boss, the fire-based Chromatic Luster, tests player mastery. The climactic battle against the Dualliste, a two-phase boss on the Ancient Bridge, proves a true challenge. This Nevron, responsible for previous expedition's demise, wields dual swords and inflicts the perilous "Inverted" status, turning healing into damage. Conquering this haunted expanse rewards players with new weapons and unlocks further progression.
