Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Description

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in a Belle Époque-inspired fantasy world. Released on April 24, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, the game follows Expedition 33, a group of volunteers on a desperate mission to stop the Paintress, a mysterious being whose annual "Gommage" erases people of a decreasing age. The gameplay blends traditional turn-based mechanics with real-time actions like dodging and parrying, encouraging strategic combat. Within this world, Glissando manifests as a recurring, imposing snake-like creature of wrapped cloth, emblematic of the theatrical Sirène region. The first encounter is the mandatory story boss, simply Glissando, located in Sirène's Coliseum. This battle serves as a significant endurance test before facing the area’s primary antagonist. Glissando is vulnerable to Dark and Ice but resilient to Light and Earth. Its attacks are diverse, including a three-hit tail slam, a two-hit head smash, and the summoning of Ballet enemies. A unique charm spell, if successful, exposes Glissando’s tail as a weak point that must be targeted to break the enchantment. Furthermore, the creature can swallow a party member, temporarily removing them until the boss is broken. Victory rewards the "Sirène" outfit for Lune and a Resplendent Chroma Catalyst. The second form, the Chromatic Glissando, is an optional yet crucial boss tied to Lune's personal story. Accessible after reaching Relationship Level 5 with Lune and venturing to Sirène's Dress, this battle guards the Expedition 46 Journal, vital for Lune's emotional arc. Similar to its counterpart, the Chromatic Glissando is weak to Ice and Dark and resistant to Earth and Light. Its primary weak spot is the glowing tail tip, striking which reduces its combo hits and damage output, though it can regenerate. This variant also features a multi-hit tail swipe and a head slam. Post-defeat, it summons three Ballet enemies that must then be dispatched. Success yields Lune’s "Choralim" weapon and upgrades Monoco’s "Ballaro," offering significant rewards alongside narrative progression for Lune. The Glissando encounters exemplify how a single boss concept can be skillfully adapted, serving both as a progression gate and a character-driven challenge, enriching the narrative and gameplay experience of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
