Chapter 5 - Intelligences of the Artificial Persuasion | Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel | As Claptrap
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
Description
*Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel* is a first-person shooter that serves as a narrative bridge between the original *Borderlands* and its sequel. Set on Pandora's moon, Elpis, and the Hyperion space station, the game details the ascent of Handsome Jack from a Hyperion programmer to the tyrannical figure known in *Borderlands 2*. The game retains the series' signature cel-shaded art style and dark humor, introducing new mechanics like low-gravity traversal and oxygen management via Oz kits. New elemental damage types such as cryo and laser weapons are added, alongside four distinct playable characters: Athena, Wilhelm, Nisha, and Claptrap, each with unique skill trees. Cooperative multiplayer remains a core feature. The game explores themes of power, corruption, and moral ambiguity, presenting a complex look at its characters.
Chapter 5, "Intelligences of the Artificial Persuasion," is a crucial mission in *Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel*, focusing on Handsome Jack's plan to build a robot army. The Vault Hunters are tasked with securing a sophisticated artificial intelligence, leading them to the derelict Dahl warship, the Drakensburg, commanded by the abusive Bosun and his captive AI, the Skipper. To reach the ship, players first obtain a scrambler from Janey Springs, leading to the acquisition of a new Stingray vehicle after a humorous door code sequence. The journey to the Drakensburg is challenging, involving combat against Scavs and Torks, and a memorable puzzle where players freeze a lava river to create a bridge, battling a Badass Kraggon along the way.
Upon boarding the Drakensburg, the Vault Hunters encounter the Bosun and his reprogrammed AI, the Skipper, who soon renames herself Felicity. Felicity secretly contacts the Vault Hunters, offering her assistance for her freedom, adding a moral dimension to the mission. The player, guided by Felicity, must sabotage the ship's engines to disable a force field, facing the Bosun's constant verbal abuse. The chapter culminates in a boss battle against the Bosun, requiring skill and strategy to defeat. After his demise, the path to the AI Hub is open. In the chapter's conclusion, Felicity expresses her gratitude and agrees to join Jack. This moment carries a tragic irony, as her liberation from the Bosun leads her unknowingly into a far worse servitude under Jack, who will eventually force her into a Constructor robot, erasing her consciousness. "Intelligences of the Artificial Persuasion" effectively blends engaging gameplay with a narrative that develops characters and foreshadows the darker trajectory of the story, highlighting ambition, desperation, and the blurred lines between heroism and villainy.
