Developed by Orbifold Studios, a collective of seasoned *Half-Life* modding teams, this project leverages NVIDIA’s RTX Remix platform to inject cutting-edge path-traced lighting and physically based rendering into the beloved classic. The goal is not to alter the core gameplay, physics, or narrative that cemented *Half-Life 2*'s legacy, but rather to ensure its visuals meet contemporary standards. The "WE DON'T GO TO RAVENHOLM... (360° Video)" serves as a particularly compelling demonstration of *Half-Life 2 RTX*'s capabilities. This chapter, infamous for its shift into survival horror within the zombie-infested town, is transformed by the embrace of full ray tracing. Where the original game relied on baked lighting and atmospheric effects to create its dread, the RTX version showcases light that behaves realistically, dynamically bouncing off surfaces. In the 360-degree format, viewers are placed directly into the heart of Ravenholm, able to witness how flashlights cast true, warping shadows around debris, and how the ambient glow of fires or the eerie luminescence of zombies interact with the environment. The improved asset quality is also strikingly apparent, with significantly more detailed character models and environmental textures that react credibly to light, enhancing the gritty, decaying atmosphere of the town.
