The Name Game - Search bullymong piles | Borderlands 2 | Walkthrough, Gameplay, No Commentary
Borderlands 2
Description
Borderlands 2 is a first-person shooter with role-playing elements set on the planet Pandora, a vibrant and dangerous world. The game features a distinctive cel-shaded art style, giving it a comic book-like appearance, and is known for its irreverent humor and loot-driven gameplay. Players take on the role of Vault Hunters attempting to stop the villainous Handsome Jack, all while collecting a vast array of procedurally generated weapons and gear. The game supports cooperative multiplayer and offers numerous side quests and downloadable content to extend the experience.
"The Name Game" is a side mission in Borderlands 2 that players can undertake from Sir Hammerlock in Sanctuary. The quest centers around Hammerlock’s dissatisfaction with the name "bullymong" for a particular species of creature and his desire to find a more fitting name for his almanac.
The mission begins by directing players to the Three Horns - Divide region. The initial objective is to search five bullymong piles, which are essentially refuse heaps. These piles must be interacted with, either through a melee attack or using the action key, to progress the objective. While searching these piles, an optional objective encourages players to kill 15 bullymongs.
Upon searching the required number of piles, Sir Hammerlock contacts the player via ECHO and, based on the piles' contents, renames the creatures "Primal Beasts." He then tasks the player with killing one of these "Primal Beasts" using a grenade.
After a "Primal Beast" is eliminated with a grenade, Hammerlock contacts the player again, stating his publisher dislikes the name. He then proposes "Ferovores" and instructs the player to shoot three of their projectiles out of the air. This is best accomplished by finding a Ferovore Slinger, maintaining distance, and shooting its thrown rocks or ice.
Successfully shooting three projectiles triggers another ECHO call from Hammerlock, who discovers "Ferovore" is trademarked. In a moment of comedic frustration, he declares their new name to be "Bonerfarts" and simply asks the player to kill five more of them. Once these five "Bonerfarts" are defeated, Hammerlock ultimately concedes that "bullymong" might not have been so bad after all, and the creatures' names revert. The mission is concluded by returning to Sir Hammerlock to receive the rewards, which typically include experience, money, and a choice between a shotgun or a shield.
Throughout the mission, smaller bullymongs, known as monglets, also have their names temporarily changed to reflect Hammerlock's current naming scheme. The mission objectives can be completed in other areas like the Eridium Blight, where the active name will be prefixed with "Bedrock." Even boss bullymongs like Knuckle Dragger and King Mong contribute to kill objectives, although their displayed names do not change. "The Name Game" itself is a humorous nod to the developers' own internal discussions and struggles to decide on a name for the bullymongs, incorporating some of the names that were considered during development.
