T K 's Life And Limb | Borderlands | Walkthrough, Gameplay, No Commentary
Borderlands
Description
The planet Pandora is a lawless, desolate world, the setting for *Borderlands*, a unique blend of first-person shooter and role-playing game. Developed by Gearbox Software, this critically acclaimed title is known for its distinctive cel-shaded art style, procedural weapon generation, and irreverent humor. Players take on the role of Vault Hunters, exploring the harsh landscapes, engaging in combat, and uncovering alien technology. Among the quirky inhabitants of Pandora is Teddy "T.K." Baha, a blind, one-legged, widowed weapons inventor who serves as a vital early-game mission provider near the settlement of Fyrestone.
One of T.K.'s significant optional missions is "T.K.'s Life And Limb," a quest that delves into his tragic past and offers a unique reward. This mission centers on T.K.'s long-standing vendetta against a formidable skag named Scar. T.K. recounts that Scar was responsible for his wife Marian's death, and in a subsequent encounter, the creature bit off his leg. Even after Dr. Zed provided him with a prosthetic, Scar managed to snatch that as well in a later confrontation. Thus, T.K. tasks the player with venturing into Skag Gully to eliminate Scar and retrieve his stolen prosthetic leg, promising a special reward for their efforts.
To undertake "T.K.'s Life And Limb," recommended for players around level 7, one must travel to Skag Gully. The path to Scar is fraught with danger, teeming with various skags and, for the first time, airborne Rakk. It is advisable to clear the area of lesser skags before engaging Scar, as they can distract from the main battle. Scar himself is a challenging foe, capable of charging and leaping considerable distances for close-quarters combat. A key attack involves spitting corrosive bile; this, however, also presents an opportunity for critical hits by shooting his open mouth. Incendiary weapons are particularly effective in swiftly defeating him. Once Scar is vanquished, he drops T.K.'s prosthetic leg, humorously described as "A partially chewed and digested prosthetic leg." A newly accessible ramp offers a convenient shortcut back to T.K.'s shack.
Upon the return of his leg, a grateful T.K. Baha rewards the player with experience points, cash, and a unique shotgun called T.K.'s Wave. This Dahl-manufactured combat shotgun fires a horizontal line of blue, oscillating projectiles that ricochet off surfaces and deal additional critical hit damage. Its wide horizontal spread makes it highly effective against large or broad enemies like skags, though less so against vertically oriented targets unless used in enclosed spaces where the bouncing bullets can be advantageous. Despite its blue, Maliwan-like appearance, the weapon’s distinct properties stem from its special Dahl barrel.
"T.K.'s Life And Limb" is rich with cultural allusions. Its central theme pays homage to Herman Melville's *Moby-Dick*, with T.K. Baha's name being "Ahab" spelled backward, mirroring Captain Ahab's obsessive pursuit of the white whale that cost him his leg. Scar, with a sword lodged in his head, directly references the scarred and harpooned Moby-Dick. Additionally, T.K.'s opening line for the mission, "I used to be a go-getter like you... 'till a skag named Scar bit my leg off," is a clear nod to a famous quote from *The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim*. This optional mission not only provides a challenging and rewarding experience but also enriches *Borderlands*' lore with its character-driven narrative and clever pop culture references.
