Medical Mystery, Kill Dr Mercy | Borderlands 2 | Walkthrough, Gameplay, No Commentary
Borderlands 2
Description
Borderlands 2, a vibrant and often hilarious first-person shooter RPG, plunges players into the chaotic world of Pandora. Developed by Gearbox Software, this sequel excels in its cel-shaded art style, irreverent humor, and loot-driven gameplay. Players assume the role of a Vault Hunter, tasked with thwarting the tyrannical Handsome Jack and his nefarious plans. The game's core loop involves exploring a dangerous planet, acquiring a vast arsenal of procedurally generated weapons, and teaming up with friends in cooperative multiplayer.
Within this expansive experience lies the "Medical Mystery" side quest, an engaging introduction to the game's powerful E-tech weaponry. Following the "Do No Harm" mission, the eccentric Dr. Zed, perpetually lacking a proper medical license, enlists the player's help. He’s baffled by patients with peculiar wounds that resemble bullet holes but contain no bullets. Zed’s suspicions fall upon his rival, Doc Mercy, a physician with a penchant for inflicting rather than healing.
The player is sent to Three Horns - Valley to investigate, eventually leading to Shock Fossil Cavern, a bandit hideout where Doc Mercy awaits. This encounter serves as a challenging miniboss fight, especially for lower-level characters. Doc Mercy, a shielded nomad, wields a potent E-tech weapon and a disruptive nova shield. When critically wounded, he deploys homing transfusion grenades, draining the player's health. Effective strategies involve maintaining distance, utilizing explosive or corrosive weaponry to bypass his defenses, or luring him out to be run over by a vehicle. Certain character abilities, like the Siren's Phaselock, can also be instrumental in flanking him.
Upon defeating Doc Mercy, the player discovers the source of the mysterious wounds: an E-tech gun. Dr. Zed identifies it via ECHO, completing "Medical Mystery" and triggering its sequel, "Medical Mystery: X-Com-municate." This follow-up mission, a playful nod to the "X-COM" series, tasks the player with testing the newly acquired E-tech weapon by eliminating twenty-five bandits. This hands-on experience with E-tech, characterized by energy projectiles and high ammo consumption, provides a unique challenge, though its ammo inefficiency is noted. Ultimately, Dr. Zed humorously concludes that these advanced weapons, despite their quirks, are exceptionally effective at their primary function: killing.
