Bad Reception | Borderlands 3 | As FL4K, Walkthrough, No Commentary
Borderlands 3
Description
Borderlands 3 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games, released on September 13, 2019. It is the fourth main installment in the acclaimed Borderlands series, renowned for its distinctive cel-shaded graphics, irreverent humor, and loot-driven gameplay. The game combines fast-paced shooting mechanics with role-playing elements, allowing players to choose from four unique Vault Hunters—Amara, FL4K, Moze, and Zane—each offering different abilities and playstyles. The story revolves around stopping the Calypso Twins from harnessing the power of scattered Vaults across various planets, expanding the game's universe and introducing diverse environments and enemies.
Despite its successes, Borderlands 3 received some criticism upon release, notably regarding the "Bad Reception" side quest, which exemplifies some of the game's less polished aspects. This optional mission takes place in Pandora's Droughts region and becomes available after completing the main story mission "Cult Following." Given to Claptrap—who is notably miserable because he lost his antenna—the quest is a lighthearted adventure designed for level 5 players. Its primary goal is to help Claptrap find replacement parts for his antenna by exploring five specific locations: Spark’s Cave, Old Laundry, Satellite Tower, Sid’s Stop, and Old Shack.
The mission involves exploration, combat, and item collection, with players battling enemies and navigating environmental hazards to retrieve specific parts. Notably, the quest's objectives are modest, and the rewards—around 543 XP and $422—are relatively small. However, completing it offers cosmetic customization options for Claptrap’s appearance, such as changing his antenna style. The mission’s simplicity and humor add character depth and charm but also highlight some of the game’s shortcomings in pacing and technical performance, especially on PC.
Overall, the "Bad Reception" side quest underscores both the strengths and flaws of Borderlands 3. While it enriches the game’s humorous tone and character interactions, it also exemplifies areas where the game’s design and technical execution could have been more refined. Nevertheless, it remains a memorable, if minor, part of the broader Borderlands experience, contributing to the game's lively universe and player engagement.
