Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in Belle Époque France, where a mysterious "Paintress" erases people yearly. Players lead Expedition 33 to stop her before the cursed number reaches their age. Gameplay blends traditional turn-based combat with real-time dodging and parrying. François, a massive, stationary turtle-like creature, is a mandatory Act 1 boss. Encountered in Esquie's Nest, he holds a critical item, Florrie. Despite his imposing size, François is considered one of the easier bosses due to a limited moveset. His sole attack, "the strongest ice attack ever," is an instant-kill ice beam with a clear two-beep charge-up. Mastering the parry or dodge timing is crucial; a successful parry enables a powerful counter. He can also generate multiple shields, requiring multi-hit attacks to break. Defeating him yields the valuable Augmented First Strike Pictos. François reappears later in a 1v1 side quest with Verso, generally a quick and easy fight, unlocking Esquie's essential Underwater Diving ability.
