In *Stray*, players step into the paws of a nimble stray cat, accidentally separated from its family and thrust into a forgotten, neon-drenched cybercity. This world, a testament to a vanished humanity, is now home to sentient robots and lurking dangers like the Zurks and Sentinels. Gameplay centers on exploration and platforming, leveraging the cat's natural agility, with a helpful drone companion, B-12, assisting in translation, light, and hacking. The narrative weaves a tale of uncovering the city's secrets, the robots' origins, and the fight for a way back to the fabled "Outside."
Chapter 4, "The Slums," opens a vibrant yet weathered hub for players. Initially met with fear, the cat finds an ally in the Guardian, paving the way for exploration. The core quest revolves around locating Momo, an Outsider desperate to reach the surface. Navigating the Slums is a vertical affair, a playground of pipes and ledges guiding the cat upwards. Momo, disheartened by his friends' disappearance, needs encouragement. The cat must retrieve three lost notebooks from Momo’s vanished companions – Doc, Clementine, and Zbaltazar – to reignite his hope and inspire the repair of a crucial Transceiver.
This scavenger hunt unfolds across rooftops and alleys, each notebook hidden in distinct, symbolically marked apartments. Clementine's is easily found through an open window. Doc's requires a key for a safe in a library. Zbaltazar's is concealed behind boxes in a room accessible by disabling a large fan. Upon gathering these mementos, Momo is motivated to fix the Transceiver, setting the stage for the next chapter.
Beyond this primary objective, the Slums teem with optional delights. Seven B-12 memories offer glimpses into the past, hidden within the environment. Eight pieces of sheet music can be collected for a musician robot, Morusque, rewarding the player with a music badge. Energy drinks, found in vending machines, can be traded with Azooz for various items, including a memory and sheet music. The chapter also allows for charming interactions, like nuzzling friendly robots or engaging in playful, trophy-earning antics. The Slums truly immerses players, blending narrative progression with a deeply interactive and memorable world.
