Rayman Legends is a genuinely delightful 2D platformer, a true celebration of vibrant art and inventive gameplay from Ubisoft Montpellier. Released in 2013, it’s the fifth main Rayman game and a brilliant sequel to Rayman Origins. It builds on what made Origins so special, adding even more to discover and refining the already fantastic mechanics, all presented in a breathtaking visual style. The story sees our heroes, Rayman and Globox, taking a well-deserved century-long nap, only to awaken and find that nightmares have taken over the Glade of Dreams, snatching up the little Teensies and causing all sorts of trouble. With their pal Murfy’s help, they embark on a grand adventure to rescue the Teensies and bring peace back to their world, hopping between enchanting worlds hidden within paintings. Among the many marvelous worlds Rayman Legends offers, the "Castle Rock" level is an absolute showstopper. This is the tenth and final stage of the very first world, "Teensies in Trouble," and it’s also the game’s introduction to its wonderfully unique musical levels. To even get to this epic finale, you first have to best the boss of the world, which really sets the stage for what's to come. "Castle Rock" is a masterclass in how to blend gameplay with music, all set to a high-energy, rocking track. It's a parody of the classic "Black Betty" by Ram Jam, and the entire level is built around its driving beat. Every jump, every punch, every enemy movement is perfectly timed with the rhythm, creating an incredibly engaging and fast-paced challenge that demands you stay on beat to survive. The level relentlessly pushes you forward through a crumbling medieval castle, always at a set pace, so there’s no time to rest. The main goal, as you'd expect from the world's name, is to free the captured Teensies, and "Castle Rock" hides three of them for you to find. The first is tucked away after a bit of platforming and a slide down a chain, just past some dancing enemies. The second requires a well-timed mid-air rescue after you navigate a collapsed tower. The final Teensy appears right at the very end, during the song's last big moment, waiting on a second platform in the air. The level itself is a thrilling rush through a dangerous castle. You'll dodge obstacles and enemies that all move to the music, including Lividstones and Franckys who are often seen jamming out. Some are just part of the scenery, but others pose a real threat. Cannons blast helicopter bombs that can shatter wooden platforms, and a giant flame pursues you from behind, making you feel like you're truly in a desperate race against time. You even have to avoid dragon fire at one point! The level concludes with a fantastic sequence of sliding down chains and being launched by a champibumper into the background, where the heroes strike triumphant poses as if they're rocking out. It's a brilliant introduction to the musical levels that become a signature part of Rayman Legends' charm.
