Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
ລາຍລະອຽດ
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, a game that narrates the ascent of the notorious Handsome Jack, unfolds on the desolate moon of Elpis and its orbital station. It’s a story about how a seemingly ordinary Hyperion employee transforms into the tyrannical figure we know from Borderlands 2. The game retains the series' signature style, featuring cel-shaded graphics and a brand of humor that's as dark as it is quirky. What sets Elpis apart is its low gravity, making every leap an extended, gravity-defying maneuver. This, coupled with the crucial oxygen tanks known as "Oz kits," introduces fresh layers to combat and exploration. Players can freeze foes with cryo weapons, shattering them into icy pieces, or wield laser firearms for that extra futuristic punch. The game also introduces four new playable characters – Athena, Wilhelm, Nisha, and Claptrap – each with their own distinct abilities and skill trees, ensuring a unique experience for every Vault Hunter.
Within this lunar landscape, the mission "Red, Then Dead" serves as a delightful little side-story, perfectly encapsulating the cutthroat corporate atmosphere of Hyperion and the early stages of Jack’s rise. Initiated by the ever-anxious executive Mr. Tassiter, the mission is deceptively simple: hunt down three Lost Legion couriers, all sporting distinctive red attire, and snag their ECHO recorders. Tassiter, convinced these recordings hold Jack’s downfall, dispatches the Vault Hunters to retrieve them. The title itself is a blunt, darkly amusing directive, setting the stage for what's to come. The couriers are found in the Lunar Launching Station, and Tassiter’s increasingly frantic, often hilariously one-sided commentary guides your pursuit. The first courier is a standard Lost Legion soldier, and his recorder reveals Jack’s plans for Hyperion on Elpis – ambitious, perhaps, but hardly treasonous. The second courier, encased in a powersuit, is a comical ineptitude, fumbling with controls and accidentally disabling his own defenses. His recorder yields more of the same: Jack’s grand designs, not damning evidence. The third courier is the most challenging, designed to flee. If you don't act fast, he retreats to a locked room, requiring a quick puzzle to access. His recorder, disappointingly for Tassiter, offers no smoking gun. The mission concludes with the Vault Hunters turning in these underwhelming recordings, earning them a unique Jakobs shotgun called the Moonface. "Red, Then Dead" is a brilliant microcosm of the game's humor and narrative: a quest fueled by petty corporate revenge, a demonstration of Tassiter's desperation, and a subtle nod to Jack's ever-growing influence and the internal struggles that paved his villainous path.
