Rayman Legends is a marvelous 2D platformer, a true celebration of imagination and artistic talent from Ubisoft Montpellier. It's the fifth main game in the Rayman series, picking up where *Rayman Origins* left off with even more charm and gameplay polish. The story finds Rayman, Globox, and the Teensies waking from a long nap to discover the Glade of Dreams has been overrun by nightmares, with the Teensies captured. Guided by their friend Murfy, they must journey through enchanting paintings to rescue their friends and restore peace to their world. Within the "Back to Origins" world, a delightful collection of remastered levels from the original game, players will discover "Hunter Gatherer." This particular level offers a refreshing departure from the usual platforming antics, shifting the focus to thrilling aerial combat atop a mighty mosquito. Set in a misty, foreboding forest, this stage transforms into a side-scrolling shooter. Players must skillfully maneuver their mosquito mount, firing projectiles to dispatch a variety of foes and obstacles. A clever mechanic allows the mosquito to inhale smaller enemies, turning them into potent projectiles for greater effect. The environment itself is a dangerous playground, filled with swarms of tiny flies, predatory baby piranhas beneath the watery surface, and Lividstones sporting their signature spiky hats. Even the flora poses a threat, with thorny vines and swaying spiky flowers that must be carefully avoided. Some of these flowers can be temporarily disabled by targeting their connected blue bulbs, adding a subtle puzzle element. A particularly striking feature of "Hunter Gatherer" is the transition into silhouette sections, where platforms and enemies are rendered as dark shapes against a lighter background. This stylistic shift demands heightened focus as hazards become less conspicuous, intensifying the challenge. The level's progression is a masterclass in pacing, blending rapid-fire action with moments that require precision and careful navigation, ultimately leading to the rescue of the Electoon cage and a truly memorable experience.
