Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a Belle Époque-inspired turn-based RPG where players lead Expedition 33 to destroy the enigmatic Paintress, who annually erases people of a specific age. The Ancient Sanctuary, an early Act I region, is crucial for finding Gestral Village. Its distinctive red and white flora marks the entrance. Upon entering, players encounter the elusive Pétank and challenging Sakapatate contraptions like the Robust and Ranger variants, each with unique weaknesses. The Sanctuary Maze, a labyrinthine section, is filled with hidden chromas, pictos, and the optional Mime boss. A pivotal moment involves locating and unlocking the Ancient Sanctuary's Paint Cage, requiring players to shoot three hidden locks. The journey culminates in Giant Bell Alley, leading to a fierce boss battle against the fire-vulnerable Ultimate Sakapatate. Defeating it grants valuable upgrades and the Breaker Pictos, allowing the expedition to finally proceed to Gestral Village.
