Metal Slug, a celebrated run-and-gun series, is known for its vibrant, hand-drawn graphics and challenging, cooperative gameplay. Players navigate electric barriers and face ambushes of bazooka-wielding soldiers. The mission progresses to a bridge over water, where scuba divers attack from below, destroying the bridge and requiring precise jumps to rescue hostages for powerful weapons like the Rocket Launcher. Subsequent enemy boats and an 88 tank are formidable challenges before reaching a hut for a Heavy Machine Gun and the mid-boss, the "Crazy Rail-tank 02." Finally, players can acquire the iconic Metal Slug tank, leading to an elevated track encounter with airborne and ladder-emerging enemies before facing the large aircraft boss, "Aero 29."
