Separated from its family, the feline protagonist falls into a deep chasm, emerging into a world brimming with neon-lit alleys and complex vertical structures, heavily influenced by the Kowloon Walled City. This introduction to The Slums, the game's first major hub, immediately immerses players in a vibrant, densely populated area. Initially met with fear by the robot inhabitants who mistake it for a Zurk, the cat's presence is soon accepted thanks to the intervention of the Guardian. The Slums, a functioning community, reveals itself through its labyrinthine alleys and multi-layered dwellings, designed for feline agility. The introduction sets the stage for the overarching narrative: a quest to reach the "Outside," igniting hope in the robot society through a simple postcard, and tasking the player with finding clues to escape the city.
