Renoir - Boss Fight | Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 | Walkthrough, Gameplay, No Commentary, 4K
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Description
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 plunges players into a Belle Époque-inspired world, where a sinister Paintress annually erases people of a specific age. As the cursed number dwindles, Expedition 33 embarks on a desperate, possibly final, mission to end this cycle of death. This turn-based RPG blends traditional JRPG mechanics with real-time actions like dodging and parrying, offering deep character customization and a compelling narrative.
Among its many challenges, Renoir stands as a recurring, evolving boss. The first true encounter takes place in the ruins of Old Lumière, a proper rematch where Renoir can finally be defeated. He exhibits no elemental weaknesses, demanding precise parries for his five-hit melee combo, which gains a stunning sixth strike when his health drops. Ranged Chroma attacks and a pool of Chroma requiring a jump counter further test players. His party-wide Chroma attack can be countered, but his most dangerous ability is an attempt to "vanish" a party member from the fight, which must be countered. Midway, he summons healing petals and rapid-shot masks, making for a multi-layered fight.
The second major confrontation unfolds within the mystical Monolith. The initial phase mirrors the Old Lumière fight, albeit with variations like a two-hit vanish attempt. However, upon reaching half health, a dark creature appears, fully healing Renoir and granting him "Rage," allowing two actions per turn. This second phase introduces new, creature-empowered attacks: claw strikes, a pounce and lunge, and a tail flip offering a Gradient Counter. Victory here rewards the invaluable "Second Chance" Pictos and "Renoir's Suit."
The final, epic showdown occurs in Act 3, back in Lumière, where Renoir appears in his true form. The battle unfolds in multiple phases, beginning with entirely new attacks like Black Holes and Void crosses. Below half health, he summons Axons – Visages, the Reacher, and the Hauler – providing shields, buffs, and attacking the party. After a dramatic cutscene, an ally joins, and Renoir enters the Dessendre Canvas, emerging with a new arsenal of frenetic, multi-hit sword attacks, debuffing darkness pools, and AP-draining Void meteors. His ultimate attack is a cinematic, four-hit party wipe. Maelle’s intervention finally seals his defeat, ending this long-standing conflict. Renoir’s pervasive influence is underscored by the cosmetic items available, including themed outfits and hairstyles for Gustave and Verso.
