Monoco - Boss Fight | Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 | Walkthrough, Gameplay, No Commentary, 4K
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Description
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 plunges players into a Belle Époque-inspired fantasy, a world gripped by the annual "Gommage," where the mysterious Paintress erases those of a specific age. Players lead Expedition 33, a desperate quest to end this cycle of death before the cursed number reaches their own generation. The game blends turn-based JRPG combat with real-time dodges, parries, and free-aiming, offering deep character customization through gear, skills, and synergies across its six unique Expeditioners.
In Act 2, following the harrowing Forgotten Battlefield, Expedition 33 arrives at the snow-covered Monoco's Station, seeking their final recruit. This isn't a simple recruitment; it's a test by the battle-loving Gestral, Monoco himself. The initial boss fight against him is a friendly duel, revealing his unique shapeshifting style. Monoco starts with straightforward bell staff attacks but soon mimics previous Nevron enemies, becoming a "Blue Mage" archetype. Victory lies in breaking his stance with powerful skills, interrupting his transformations and controlling the flow of the battle.
Immediately after, the station is attacked by a Stalact, an ice golem. Monoco, observing, allows the party to handle it. This fight is a crucial tutorial for "Gradient Attacks," powerful, AP-fueled character-specific abilities. The Stalact is weak to Fire but absorbs Ice in its Ice Stance, launching earthquake attacks requiring jumps and a four-hit paw combo. As it weakens, it prepares to self-destruct, demanding swift defeat or a last-second dodge.
With the Stalact vanquished, Monoco joins, fundamentally altering party strategy. He learns skills from any new enemy defeated in his presence, encouraging players to rotate him into the active party. His "Bestial Wheel" mechanic categorizes skills by "Masks" (Heavy, Agile, Caster); using a skill on its matching Mask enhances it. This system makes Monoco a highly technical, versatile character, though his "jack of all trades" nature can be overshadowed by specialists later on. This multi-faceted encounter at Monoco's Station is more than recruitment; it introduces a complex character, a new combat system, and sets the stage for deeper strategic gameplay.
