Description
Borderlands 2 is a first-person shooter with RPG elements, set on the chaotic planet Pandora. Players control Vault Hunters battling Handsome Jack and his Hyperion Corporation. The game is known for its distinct cel-shaded art style, extensive loot system with procedurally generated weapons, cooperative gameplay, and humorous narrative filled with memorable characters.
The mission "Train to Catch" in Borderlands 2 is a pivotal story quest given by Roland. It tasks the player with hijacking a Hyperion train to acquire a Vault Key. The quest takes players through Three Horns - Divide, Tundra Express, and End of the Line. After rescuing Roland, the player is directed to Tundra Express to locate Roland's spy, Mordecai. Awakening Mordecai requires setting three Varkids on fire simultaneously, a task achievable with fire weaponry or environmental hazards. Subsequently, the player must meet Tiny Tina to obtain "badonk adonks" from the Buzzard Academy. These explosives are then used to destroy the railway tracks, creating a path to the End of the Line area, navigating through loaders and scouts in Snowblind Defile before reaching Terminus Plateau.
Upon reaching the plateau and approaching a train car, it is suddenly discarded, revealing Wilhelm beneath. This unexpected appearance shifts the objective from obtaining the Vault Key to defeating Wilhelm. Wilhelm is a heavily armored cyborg with high health and no initial shields. He can summon Loaders for support and periodically spawns Surveyors and Shield Surveyors to heal and shield him. Wilhelm possesses a powerful melee attack and a dangerous aerial spin that can knock the player off ledges. His ranged attacks include rockets and grenades.
Wilhelm is resistant to fire but weak to corrosive damage. Shock damage is effective against his shields, and slag helps amplify damage. A sniping perch overlooking Terminus Plateau offers a safe vantage point. Wilhelm's early tendency to remain in one area while spawning bots makes him vulnerable to corrosive cloud grenades. Wilhelm is a cyborg mercenary in service to Handsome Jack. He was a playable character in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, joining Jack's Vault Hunters for a significant reward. After the events of The Pre-Sequel, he received further augmentations and became one of Jack's most formidable operatives. His defeat in "Train to Catch" yields a power core, which Angel deceitfully uses to disable Sanctuary's shields. An unused ECHO log reveals Jack deliberately weakened Wilhelm with poison before the fight.
Completing "Train to Catch" rewards the player with experience, money, and a white rarity relic on higher difficulties. The mission is crucial to the main story, introducing a key antagonist and advancing Jack's manipulative schemes, leading to the next quest, "Rising Action." Defeating Wilhelm also unlocks the "Wilhelm Screamed" achievement.
