The Beard Makes The Man | Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep | As Gaige
Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep
Description
Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep is a unique expansion for Borderlands 2, presenting the main game's first-person shooter and looter-shooter mechanics within the chaotic framework of a fantasy tabletop role-playing game, as narrated by the eccentric Tiny Tina. Players navigate a world filled with skeletons, orcs, and dragons, encountering familiar Borderlands characters reimagined in this medieval setting, all while Tina's whims dynamically alter the narrative and challenges. Beneath the humor and fantasy action, the DLC also serves as a poignant exploration of Tina's grief over the death of Roland.
"The Beard Makes The Man" is an optional mission within this DLC, initiated by talking to Claptrap in the Mines of Avarice. The core task involves crafting a magical beard for Claptrap by getting dwarves drunk with a temporary weapon, the Grog Nozzle, and then crushing them to collect beard pieces. These pieces are then forged into the final beard.
The Grog Nozzle, provided specifically for this quest, is a unique Maliwan pistol that always deals Slag damage. While its base damage is low, it boasts a high critical hit bonus and an extremely high Slag chance. Its most significant feature is its massive 65% life steal effect on all damage dealt while equipped, making it incredibly powerful for survivability and certain character builds. This healing is far superior to other Moxxi weapons and can even save players during Fight For Your Life. The Grog Nozzle also has a chance to intoxicate the player, increasing projectiles but reducing accuracy and fire rate.
Due to its exceptional utility, particularly the life steal, the Grog Nozzle is highly sought after. However, it is removed from the player's inventory upon completing "The Beard Makes The Man." Consequently, many players deliberately choose *not* to complete the mission, keeping it active indefinitely to retain access to the Grog Nozzle across their playthroughs. This makes "The Beard Makes The Man" an unusual quest where the true reward is the ability to possess the temporary item provided during the mission itself, leading players to intentionally avoid completion for strategic advantage.
