Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in Belle Époque France, where a mysterious "Paintress" annually erases people of a specific age. Players lead Expedition 33, a desperate mission to stop her before the cursed number reaches 33. Combat blends turn-based strategy with real-time dodges and parries, emphasizing character builds and synergies. After the harrowing Forgotten Battlefield, Expedition 33 returns to camp, marking a significant transition. Gustave departs, replaced by Verso, who inherits his level but introduces a new "Perfection" combat style, rewarding precise play. At camp, players can upgrade gear, Lumina, and Tints with the Curator. The relationship system opens up, allowing deeper bonds with companions like Esquie, Lune, and Sciel, revealing new story elements. Maelle also reflects by writing in Gustave's journal. Esquie's new swimming ability expands the world map, unlocking previously inaccessible areas, hidden dungeons, optional bosses, and minigames.
