Players lead Expedition 33 to stop the Paintress, blending traditional JRPG combat with real-time dodges and parries. The Forgotten Battlefield, a somber ruin of trenches and siege engines, serves as a grim monument to failed expeditions. Here, the party gains Verso and confronts the Dualliste. This war-torn expanse introduces the Gradient Counter mechanic, essential for defending against powerful attacks that drain color from the world. Players navigate ruined forts and trenches, finding valuable Pictos and lore from past failures. The area teems with Chalier, Ramasseur, and Pétank Nevrons, alongside the optional Chromatic Luster boss.
