Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG set in a Belle Époque-inspired world, tasks players with confronting the Paintress to halt the "Gommage," a yearly event where people of a cursed age vanish. Its combat blends JRPG strategy with real-time dodges and parries. Renoir, a recurring boss, embodies escalating challenge. In Old Lumière, his five-hit combo demands precise parries, later adding a sixth stunning stab. He unleashes Chroma waves and a party-wide attack that, if countered, becomes a devastating Gradient Counter. Summoned healing petals and rapid mask shots further test players. Inside the Monolith, Renoir initially mirrors his past self before a dark creature heals him, granting "Rage" and new claw and pounce attacks. His final, multi-phase encounter in Lumière reveals his true form. He summons Black Holes and a Void cross, aided by his Axons providing shields and buffs. Post-cutscene, he emerges from the Dessendre Canvas, wielding frenetic sword attacks, debuffing darkness pools, and Void meteors, culminating in a cinematic multi-hit ultimate.
