Borderlands 2 is a vibrant first-person shooter with RPG elements, set on the dangerous planet Pandora. Players choose one of four Vault Hunters to stop the tyrannical Handsome Jack, CEO of Hyperion, from unleashing a powerful alien entity. The game is renowned for its cel-shaded comic book art style, vast arsenal of procedurally generated loot, and hilarious, often self-aware, narrative, all enhanced by cooperative multiplayer. An early quest, "The Road to Sanctuary," is crucial for progression. Guided by Claptrap and the mysterious Angel, the player's goal is to reach Sanctuary, the last free city and hub of the Crimson Raiders. The journey begins in the icy Three Horns – Divide. To cross the dangerous landscape, a vehicle is needed, but the local Catch-A-Ride system is locked by Scooter to prevent bandits from using it. To unlock vehicle access, the Vault Hunter must retrieve a Hyperion adapter from a nearby Bloodshot bandit encampment. After battling through the crazed foes, the adapter is secured and installed. Angel then hacks the system, allowing the player to summon a Runner, a nimble two-person vehicle. With wheels acquired, the player must navigate treacherous terrain, including a significant jump over a destroyed bridge, to continue towards Sanctuary. Upon arrival, Lieutenant Davis greets the Vault Hunter and introduces them to Roland, the leader of the Crimson Raiders. Roland reveals that Sanctuary's vital defensive shields are failing and need a new power core. The player is tasked with finding Corporal Reiss, who was supposed to retrieve it. Unfortunately, Reiss is found dying, having been attacked by Bloodshots, and reveals that a bandit has stolen the core. This leads to another confrontation with the Bloodshots to recover the essential power core, cementing the player's role in the resistance and granting access to the sanctuary.
