Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in Belle Époque-inspired France, where a mysterious "Paintress" erases people of a certain age annually. Players lead Expedition 33 to stop her before "33" is painted. The game blends turn-based combat with real-time dodges, parries, and aiming, offering deep character customization. Following Act 1, the party enters the Forgotten Battlefield, a sprawling, war-torn ruin littered with past expeditions' failures. This somber landscape introduces the Gradient Counter mechanic, crucial for defending against powerful enemy attacks. Players navigate trenches, finding valuable Pictos like "Sweet Kill" and "Energising Death," along with lore-rich journal entries. Foes include armored Chaliers and the elusive Pétank. Optional boss, the Chromatic Luster, challenges with fire attacks, rewarding unique gear. The main boss, the Dualliste, awaits on the Ancient Bridge. This two-phase battle tests mastery of swift combos and the perilous "Inverted" status effect, where healing causes damage.
