Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in Belle Époque France, where an annual "Gommage" erases people of a specific age. Players lead Expedition 33 to stop the mysterious Paintress before she erases everyone at age 33. After the harrowing Forgotten Battlefield, Expedition 33 returns to camp, a crucial turning point. Gustave departs, replaced by Verso, a new ally with unique "Perfection" mechanics, demanding a precise combat style. At camp, players can upgrade gear, Lumina, and Tints with the Curator. The relationship system is introduced, allowing bonding with companions like Esquie, Lune, and Sciel, unlocking new dialogue and story. Maelle is seen reflecting in Gustave's journal. Esquie's new swimming ability dramatically expands exploration, opening previously inaccessible areas and revealing hidden dungeons, optional bosses, and minigames.
